Title: The Big Break

Summary: What happens when Mulder is left alone? A blind date and an interesting way to get a new roommate.

FADE IN:

INT. MULDER'S APT. BUILDING - HALLWAY

ANGLE - MULDER

is kneeling on the floor in front of Krycek's door. He's picking the lock. And it pops open, and Mulder almost falls in. He stands up and walks in, and shuts the door... quickly.

ANGLE - MULDER

a profile show of him. He is a little bit paranoid as he flips on the light. He looks over to see a cleen apartement (very unlike his own). Mulder starst to take pictures down from the wall, the audience should be wondering what the heck it Mulder up to now?

DISSOLVE CUT TO:

Mulder moving Krycek's couch from the left side of the screen... he struggles a bit.

DISSOLVE CUT TO:

Mulder moving 'Krycek's' fish... coming from the right side of the screen...

DISSOLVE CUT TO:

Mulder moving Krycek bunk bed... from the left side of the screen... why we don't know...yet.

DISSOLVE CUT TO:

Mulder moving quickly from the right side of the screen pushing a table.

CUT TO:

WIDE ANGLE

Mulder, starring at the bare wall, holding a sledge hammer. Suddenly, he grabs it with both hands and attacks the wall, screaming, hitting the wall over and over again, causing a lot of damage.

TIME CUT TO:

INT. MULDER'S APT

ANGLE - MULDER'S PHONE

O.S. we hear a crash of plaster... the phone rings.

NEW ANGLE - THE HOLE IN MULDER'S WALL

Mulder's head suddenly pops up... very alert, and he has a goofy expression on his face and his hair is a mess... with bits of plaster in it. We hear from the other side of the wall (where Mulder is) the hammer falls to the ground with a CLANK. Mulder suddenly stars to CRAWL through the hole in the wall.

Mulder walks over to the phone and answers it.

MULDER
(happy & out of breath)
Yeah, Mulder.

We hear someone covering the phone on the other end.

FROHIKE
(filtered;covering mouthpiece)
He got lucky.
(uncovers mouthpiece)
Oh hey Mulder, are we
interupting anything?

MULDER
No, I'm just banging
something around.

FROHIKE
(filitered,covering mouthpiece
speaking to Langly & Byers)
He's banging someone.

LANGLY
(filtered;in bg)
Find out who.

FROHIKE
(to Mulder)
Who?

MULDER
What do you mean
"who"? I'm banging
the wall.

FROHIKE
The wall?!?

We hear Langly and Byers in the b.g. making "oh yuk" noises.

MULDER
Oh, you guys, I'm making
a hole in the wall.

Suddenly The Lone Gunmen put him on their speaker phone, they all heard this.

LANGLY
(filtered)
Oh, we don't wanna go
there Mulder.

BYERS
(filtered; changing subject)
Frohike got you a
blind date tonight.

MULDER
A what?

FROHIKE
She's really nice.

MULDER
But I have to finish
the wall... (he looks to
the wall)
What time am I picking her up?

FROHIKE
You're meeting at a
nice restaurant.

TIME CUT TO:

INT. MEAN'S RESTAURANT - EVENING

ANGLE - MULDER

sitting at a table, dressed nicely, playing with his silverware, his hari still has shavings of plaster in it, he hasn't noticed. He looks up to see:

MULDR'S POV

A young women, wearing heels she obviously can't walk in, she's very wobbly. She is wearing av ery skimpy black dress. Her hair is up in a very high ponytail and frizzed out, brown hair. She's got a tone of make up gooped on, she looks like a prostitute. As she approaches... Mulder's poor nose cringes, he smells magazines... Oh my God, he comes to the realization it is the woman from the ballet, but not the Arabian Dancer it's... it can't be... MAGAZINE GIRL # 2! Doo! Doo! She speaks... oh no...

MAG GIRL # 2
(annoying voice)
Are you Fox?

MULDER
(in shock, he's scared)
Yes, and you are?

Now this is as long as Mulder can pay attention to her, from now on we hear MAGAZINE GIRL # 2 from Mulder's ears.

MAG GIRL # 2
Blah blah blah, blah
blah. Ha ha ha.

She places her hand across the table.

MULDER
(not amused)
Ha huh...

He has no idea what she's talking about.

MAG GIRL # 2
Mwah blah dah, cah ha?

MULDER
(confused)
Yes.

MAG GIRL # 2
(looks at him seductivly)
Ah, kwah mah dah...

MULDER
(fearful)
No...
(he shakes his head)

MAG GIRL # 2
Boh? Lah mee toya lah?

MULDER
I've got to go.

Mulder stands up and leaves, with a napkin still hanging out of his shirt.

TIME CUT TO:

INT. MULDER/KRYCEK'S APT. - EARLY MORNING - 2AM

WIDE ANGLE

Mulder and the Gunmen, they are finishing up taking down the wall between Mulder and Krycek's apartments.

FROHIKE
Tell me agian Mulder,
why are ou doing this?

Frohike hits the wall with a sledge hammer.

MULDER
Because I get lonely
and need somebody
to talk with.

WHACK! Mulder hits the wall with a sledge hammer.

LANGLY
Why Krycek? He
scares me.

Langly stands there observing, not helping... he's too scared to get caught doing something this stupid.

MULDER
(goofy grin)
He's my buddy.

Off the Gunmen's dumbfounded looks we

TIME CUT TO:

4 AM

It's quiet, The Lone Gunmen have left. Mulder is sleeping, somewhere... we don't know where yet... CAMERA PANS around the apartment that Mulder made. It looks clean enough... descent. Mulder has rearranged all of the furniture, a pile of pictures (Krycek's) are piled up on a desk, the fish are on the kitchen table. As the camera reaches Krycek's door, it OPENS. Light from the hallway CREEPS in ...

ANGLE - KRYCEK

standing in the doorway... he's beat. It was a long drive back from Roswell. He steps in and slams the door. He's unaware of Mulder's work. He drops all his bags right where he stands. He starts walking toward his bedroom, drops his coat off on the way, leaving it on the floor. As he walks he steps on his shoes to take them off, and YAWNS. We follow him into the room, he takes off his shir, we see a nice shot of his bare back. He walks into the bathroom, we hear peeing, when he emerges, he's wearing dark red silk boxers, he starts to sprint, and leaps high into the air... to waht he thinks is his bed.

We hear him CRASH TO THE FLOOR with a big BANG!

KRYCEK
(tired, not pissed, whiny
to himself)
Who took my bed?

He gets up and walks out of his room, and into his living room. He walks to where he thinks his couch is, turns backwards, and FALLS BACKWARDS with a big THUD!... he's on the floor... again.

KRYCEK
(in pain; getting frustrated)
Oh God.

He sits there in the dark, he sees a shadow further than it should be. He stands up and walks over to the lightswich, and flips it on, he looks to his right and sees Mulder's apartment living room, he wonders where the wall went, and all the plaster on the floor...

KRYCEK
(pissed and yelling)
MULDER!!!!

He storms into Mulder's side of the apartment almost TRIPPING over random plaster scattered around the floor...

Mulder... sleepily emerges from Krycek's bedroom.

MULDER
(yawning, rubbing sleep
out of his eyes)
Hey buddy...

Krycek turns around and GLARES at Mulder.

KRYCEK
(standin in limbo between
the two apartments)
Where's my wall?!

MULDER
What wall?

KRYCEK
(angry)
The wall that's suppose
to be here!

MULDER
(innocently)
I remodeled.

KRYCEK
And how much will
this cost me?

MULDER
Nothing. (beat)
I did this myself.

Krycek just looks at Mulder like he's insane... which he is.

MULDER
(not understanding)
What? We can be roommates
now...

KRYCEK
Where's my bed?

MULDER
In our bedroom.

Krycek has the look of "oh no, I did not just hear that" on his face.

KRYCEK
Where is my bed?

MULDER
(walking into Krycek's room)
It's in here.

We enter Krycek's room, one bed has already been slept in, the other is nice and neat. There is a teddy bear on the pillow holding a small balloon on a plastic stick that says "Welcome Back".

Krycek glares at him, picking up his phone and calls someone... he takes his gun from out of his desk and takes aim at Mulder.

SCULLY
(filtered; laughing)
Hello!?

Remember... it's 4am... We hear Marita in the background.

MARITA
(filtered; in bg)
Oh my God, Dana!
Look at this! (she
laughs)

KRYCEK
Scully, I need to
speak to Marita, before I kill
Mulder!

SCULLY
Oh, Alex. Hi. Here's
Marita.

She hands the phone to Marita.

ANGLE - SCULLY

sitting on the couch all the lights are out, we hear a "horror" movie in the b.g. She hands the phone to Marita, who is still laughing at the movie.

SCULLY
He's about to kill
Mulder again.

MARITA
(laughing)
Hey hon'! Welcome back!

KRYCEK
(filtered)
I need somewhere to
stay before I kill Mulder.

MARITA
What'd he do
this time?

ANGLE - KRYCEK

on the phone, turns to glare at Mulder, who is standing there like a scared little boy.

KRYCEK
Where to start!
he bangs his hand on the desk. Mulder flinches.

KRYCEK
(glares at Mulder throughout
story)
He drags me our to New Mexico,
gets me arrested two... three
times, I've lost count...

CUT TO:

ANGLE - MARITA

Sitting there listening.

MARITA
You got arrested?

Scully looks over amused, turns on the speaker phone, Krycek doesn't notice... too buys yacking.

KRYCEK
--left me there, with a big
ass cell mate, in which
I won't go into the detalis.
He got a brand new car and now
my apartment is joined with his,
he felt the need to break down
the wall... So now we are roommates.

ANGLE - SCULLY

biting her hand trying not to laugh out loud, if it's not obvious by now, she and Marita are on caffine. Scully tries not to laugh.

KRYCEK
(filtered; through speaker
phone)
Can I come over before I kill
him or myself?

SCULLY
(can't contain herself
anymore)
Sure!

KRYCEK
(filtered)
Wasn't I talking to
Marita?

MARITA
I'm still here.

Scully takes the phone off speaker phone. Skinner enters the room tired, goes over to Scully and in the b.g. we hear him asking what is going on. Scully sits Skinner down on the couch and we see her arms flying around as she explains what is happening.

CUT TO:

TIME LAPES TO 5:30 AM

Krycek arrives at Marita, Scully, and Skinner's apartment. He KNOCKS on their door. Marita answers and lets him in. Krycek HUGS her... finally normal people. The door shuts. From behind the door, we hear more sounds of the "horror" movei, a girl from the tv SCREAMS, Marita and Scully BURST OUT LAUGHING in hyperness...
