ACT THREE EXT. J. EDGAR HOOVER BUILDING (STOCK)
INT. MULDER/SCULLY/KRYCEK OFFICE - MORNING
Mulder is siting at his desk, reading yet another x-file when Krycek enters, carrying a small piece of paper.
KRYCEK Mulder looks up, and takes the note from Krycek's hand and reads it: "Something came up, I'll be in touch. - Scully"
What is this about, Mulder?
MULDER Mulder just looks at him.
Where'd you get this?KRYCEK
It was left on our coffee
table, I found it this morning.
KRYCEK Krycek just shakes his head, he won't fall for Mulder's trap.
Do you have any idea why
she would leave without
telling us where she was going?MULDER
I don't know, but after what
you and Marita dropped on her
the other night, I could see
why she wouldn't tell you.
KRYCEK Mulder stands up and puts on his suit jacket and heads toward the door, Krycek follows.
So you know-MULDER
Marita told me everything,
including some points you
neglected to tell Scully -KRYCEK
Mulder, what's important now
is the fact that if the Smoking
Man convinced her of what you were
told, he wouldn't use Scully for
the best interest of the world.MULDER
Then why are we wasting out
time here discussing it?
CUT TO:
EXT. HOUSE - MILFORD, PA - MORNING
INT. BEDROOM
Scully is just waking up in a king size bed, the pillow next to her's looks as if someone has slept there too. Scully gets up out of bed, wearing only a loose silk shirt. She walks over to the chair and puts on some matching pajama pants.
In the kitchen, the Smoking Man has been preparing breakfast. Scully enters the room.
CIGARETTE SMOKING MAN
I got a call about an hour ago...
our daughter did survive the crash...SCULLY
Where is she?CIGARETTE SMOKING MAM
Jill is in good hands (beat, off
her concerned look) Don't worry
Dana, we'll see her again.The Smoking Man past her, caressing her bare shoulder gently.
SCULLY Scully looks at him knowingly, she knows what she has to do...
Something needs to be done
about Marita and Alex... if
they succeed, we'll never see
her again... we can't let that happen.CIGARETTE SMOKING MAN
That is why you must return to
them... if you don't they will
be even more determined to succeed.
CUT TO:
INT. SKINNER'S OFFICE - DAY
Skinner is seated at his desk twirling his engagement ring on his thumb, his intercom buzzes.
SKINNER'S ASSISTANT Skinner opens his desk drawer and puts the ring away. Mulder and Krycek enter.
Sir, Agents Mulder and Krycek
are here to see you.SKINNER
Send them in.
MULDER Mulder hands Skinner the note Scully left.
Sir, Agent Scully hasn't
showed up for work and
this morning Krycek found
this note.
SKINNER Skinner looks at him, trying to hide his worry.
(I don't care tone)
So, she left town.KRYCEK
He may have gotten to her.
SKINNER He takes a seat at his desk.
There's nothing I can
do to help you, agents.
SKINNER He looks to the door to suggest they leave. Mulder starts to walk toward the door.
Now, I have some files
to go through.
KRYCEK
(forceful)
Sir, we have no time.Skinner just glares at him, Mulder stops dead in his tracks realizing for the first time the seriousness of the situation, and how much he doesn't know about his partner.
SKINNER Krycek give Skinner an irritate glare and storms past Mulder... not wasting anytime. Mulder follows Krycek quietly... leaving Skinner there with that look on his face.
It'd be better if I
didn't involve myself.
CUT TO:
INT. KRYCEK'S CAR - NIGHT (HOURS LATER)
Mulder is sleeping in the passenger seat, Krycek is driving. It's pouring rain outside, the swishing of the windshield wipers is all we really hear. Krycek glances at the digital clock on the radio, it reads 2:13am. Krycek takes out his cell phone and dials Marita.
KRYCEK He hangs up, and exits the highway.
Sorry to call you so late
...I'm heading north on...
crap... I don't know... I'm
heading toward Milford. (beat)
Don't worry I know what I'm
doing. (beat) No I won't.
TIME CUT:
Krycek's car is driving down a small country road, suddenly the headlights turn off. He parks the car on the side of the road, looks at Mulder and decides it is better he stay asleep. Krycek quietly gets out of the car, not locking the door, and grabs a towel and a small can of chloroform. He heads up a long driveway.
After a few minutes.
POV - KRYCEK
Scully is standing outside on the porch alone, thoughtful. After a beat, she goes back in the house and starts to turn off some lights.
Krycek adjusts his cap and slowly and carefully approaches. From the side of the porch (not the main stairs) Krycek crawls over to the front door and picks the lock and the door creeks open as he enters.
Krycek is frantically looking through the rooms... kitchen, restroom, den, and the living room... where the Smoking Man is seated, his back to Krycek, reading a book. Krycek quickly steps backwards and runs right into Scully. Krycek quickly turns around and punches her, not realizing who it is. Scully starts to scream, but Krycek pours the chloroform onto the cloth and knocks her out... we hear a noise come from the living room.
CIGARETTE SMOKING MAN (O.S.) Krycek thinks 'oh crap'.
Dana?
CUT TO:
EXT. HOUSE
Heading back towards the car, Krycek is carrying Scully over his shoulder, sloppily trying to run back to the car, as room by room in the Smoking Man's house, lights turn on.
Krycek literally shoves Scully into the back of his car, slams the door behind him and speeds off into the darkness.
CUT TO:
The Smoking Man, looking on out his window as Krycek's car speeds off. He takes a drag.
CUT TO:
INT. SKINNER'S OFFICE
Mulder and Krycek are sitting in the chairs in front of Skinner's desk.
SKINNER Mulder and Krycek exchange worried looks, Scully doesn't seem too shocked. Skinner's intercom buzzes.
I called you in today because
you are being split up.MULDER
Split up? For what reasons?SKINNER
It's not my call Agent Mulder.
ASSISTANT Skinner's office door opens and Agent Doggett enters. Skinner stands up, the others do as well.
Agent Doggett's here to see you, sir.
SKINNER Doggett extends his hand out to shake Krycek's, and looks at him as if he's seen him before.
Agent Doggett, I'd like you
to meet Agents Krycek, Mulder
and Scully.
DOGGETT Krycek shakes his hand.
John Doggett, nice to meet you.
KRYCEK As Doggett shakes the others hands:
Krycek. Alex Krycek.
SKINNER At that, Mulder, Krycek, Doggett, and Scully file out of the office.
Agent Krycek you will immediately
move your belongings into your new office.
SKINNER Scully stays behind, the others leave. Mulder shuts the door.
Agent Scully, may I
have a word with you.
SKINNER And Scully turns and leaves. Off Skinner's look...
Dana, I want to apologize for-SCULLY
-Sir, I think you know
better than to do that.
